There's actually a national quarantine system that's set up to handle outbreaks including tuberculosis, plague, smallpox, cholera. This relates in part to improved surveillance but also relates to changes in patterns of food production, distribution, and consumption. Rectal lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) has reemerged as a sexually transmitted infection among men who have sex with men (MSM), particularly those who are HIV-positive. Diagnosis is made by seeing a grayish white patch on the tonsils and inside the throat and finding the diphtheria germs in it. It is commonly called lousiness as it is caused by insects called lice. For example, our Antimicrobial Management Team helps control the spread of resistant microbes by promoting appropriate use of antibiotics.
